Greenville SC, Indian Wedding Photographers – Vidhi – Ruby
The Vidhi ceremony that is before an Indian Wedding is one of the most beautiful things I have been privileged to witness as a photographer. Every time we get asked to do Indian weddings in Greenville I get excited. The colors, the tradition, the family closeness, and the hospitality is overwhelming. I’ve never left one without feeling as if I was part of the family. Ruby’s was no exception to the rule. The first time I met Ruby was when we arrived of her Mehndi session the night before (she lives out of town so we booked everything via Skype and phone conversations) and it was like we had been friends for years. I knew immediately that this was going to be a fun couple of days.
The morning of the Vidhi we arrived at the hall on the gorgeous campus of Presbyterian college. Fall was in the air and everything had that wonderful fall glow. We took a few family photos outside and then went inside for the beginning of the ceremony. The beginning of the vidhi involves mostly the family of the bride and not the bride herself. The priest was extremely helpful giving us access very close up to make sure that we got some great shots. Soon later came one of my favorite parts of the ceremony where the bride has the pithi applied to her by her family. Pithi is a paste made of turmeric, rose water and other ingredients that is meant to cleanse and give the skin a glow. It is always a great time to get some awesome facial expressions by everyone involved. From there we went outside where the family performed some Garba in the parking lot along with the tradition of the females carrying ornate pots in their heads. It is a mesmerizing event. I am always in awe of the beauty of these traditions.
We had such a great time with Ruby and her family. I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality and cooperation throughout the day. We left feeling like we were part of the family! Please enjoy some of my favorites from the day!
